Anthony Ostlund Wins Patent Jury Trial in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California

September 27, 2016

Courtland Merrill and Dan Hall won a jury verdict for Anthony Ostlund client after a five-day trial involving complex patent issues.

The firm’s client, Johnstech International Corp., prevailed on claims against a competitor, JF Microtechnology, for infringement of a patent related to a device used to test computer chips – a key product sold by Johnstech.  The San Francisco jury found, under the doctrine of equivalents, that JF Microtechnology infringed all claims of Johnstech’s U.S. Patent No. 7,059,866.  The jury rejected JF Microtechnology’s defense that the patent was invalid, found that the infringement was willful, and awarded Johnstech $636,807 lost profits as damages.
